My Testimony –By Sonia Clayton – Spring, TX (Houston North Stake)

In 1971, a frightened eight-year-old girl held hermother’s hand in the middle of a crowd distracted by the confident words of anAmerican missionary preaching at a street corner in Colombia. Her mother was a strongand faithful Catholic; however upon listening to the powerful message of therestored gospel of Jesus Christ, in just two weeks, this abandoned wife and herthree small children became members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daySaints. The most precious gift they ever received was the Book of Mormon. The power of the words contained in this bookwould perform a true miracle for this family.

After their conversion, a miracle happened! Hometeachers and missionary visits immediately filled the lack of a father figurein the home. Relief Society sisters reached out with love and kindness tobefriend this lonely and abandoned wife. Joy and happiness filled the hearts ofthe little children at this home when, for the first time, the missionariesjoined their family for “Family Home Evening”. Together they sang songs, playedgames, ate desserts and enjoyed family time on Monday nights. Then they startedlearning eternal principles such as the promise that families can be together forever, the importance of following thecommandments and the knowledge that I am a child of God.

With the love and care of church young women’s leaders,this little girl grew up and developed a passion for knowledge, education andself-improvement. This young woman grew up in poverty but, she experienced theriches of God’s kingdom on Earth through the gospel. Many trials accompaniedher life since her childhood but with faith and perseverance she overcame manyhealth challenges including (CCI) Chronic Cerebral Inflammation, Diabetes, andCancer. In 2006 she was invited to the White House to receive a State Award.She was recognized as “One Amazing Woman in the USA.” She was named “Heroine of theCommunity” for providing employment to many Americans in Houston during the recession succeeding 9/11and for building a successful company during that time. In 2007 she became “TheHispanic Entrepreneur of The Year” and Fox 26 named her the “Hispanic Honoreeof the Year.” Texas Governor Rick Perry recognized her as a “Prominent Woman inTechnology,” and in 2008 her company became a “Houston Fast 50” and a “HoustonFast 100 Corporation.”

I am humbled to say that I was the little girl whoreceived the blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ in America throughmissionary work.

The Book ofMormon had fascinating stories that made sense to my family, for we hadheard and study the legends of previous generations and folklore in Latin America. These were the stories of the “White God”, a man of pale skin and blue eyes livingamong our people in a new world, bringing knowledge of science, engineering,society, laws, charity, morality and much more. He set down laws that there was tobe no more killing of animals and that the Toltecs would feast off vegetablesand fruits. There would also be no more human sacrifice.

Our family was thrilled to have found the bookcontaining the stories of the “White God” who had visited the Americas, knownby the Toltecs and Aztecs as “Quetzalcoatl”. The people of the Incas called him“Viracocha”. The Mayans called him ’’Kukulcan”. The Chibchas called him “Bochica”and The Aymara from Peru called him “Hyustus”.It appears that Quetzalcoatl must have had a fast flying vehicle that couldtake him from Mexico to Central America and to South America. What kind of shipcould transport a fair skinned god around the country like that? At some pointof time Quetzalcoatl left but promised to all of these tribes that he would oneday return. Thus, they expected him and confused him with the Spanish ConquerorHernan Cortezat the Yucatán Peninsula.

I testify that the Book of Mormon is a true record ofJesus Christ in America, I testify that this white god was Jesus Christ, our Saviorand our Redeemer. He, who gave His life in pain and unspeakable suffering,has reached down to lift each of us, including myself, from the abyss ofeternal darkness following death. He has provided something better—Eternal Life.My gratitude knows no bounds. My thanks to my Lord has no end. Heis my God and my King. From everlasting to everlasting, He will reign and ruleas King of Kings and Lord of Lords. To His dominion there will be no end. To Hisglory there will be no conclusion.

No other can take His place. No otherever will. Unblemished and without fault of any kind, He is the Lamb of God, towhom I bow and through whom I can return to my Father in Heaven.

Who is Joseph Smith? Is the Book of Mormon another testament of Jesus Christ? Should I believe that there is a living prophet? How about baptism for the dead, is it real? These are some of the questions that came into my mind when I first met two young missionaries a year ago. They’ve taught me about the gospel and answer most of my questions. Then, they asked me if I really want to know the truth and answer my questions undoubtedly - they asked me to pray. I cannot explain how I felt that night when I started to pray, but I do remember the feeling. I asked our Heavenly Father if this church is true and if I should believe what the two missionaries have said and taught. I’m sure that He answered me... He answered me with a YES.

Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gives me so much reason to enjoy life. I actually didn’t expect that I’ll be a part of this true church and have been blessed for almost everyday.

A war freak, disobedient, and prideful girl changed into a better person. How come that God still remembers me while I do my best to forget Him? I know one thing is for sure.. He loves me.

I hope someday I will have my own testimony that will inspire others and help them find their way back to our Heavenly Father.

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a Mormon without a doubt!

My testimony by Tim Griffiths.

When I was 25 years old I had a friend, who said to me,"I know the Church is true and everything. . . . but what if it's not ?"
At the time and since then I thought, it was an odd thing to say. But I came to understand what she meant, from the time we are three years old and onward we are taught that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true. So, some members of the Church will
say the words: "I know the Church is true", without really knowing it is true or not. But eventually it's up to me and the Holy Ghost to know for sure, if the Church is true.
Through the years, there have been times when I was not sure about one thing or another in Church Hx. There were times when I did not understand certain scriptures. If I was left to my own understanding alone, I might be led to think, 'I know I've been taught that the Church is true and every thing, but what if it's not'. Good thing for me, I was not left to my own understanding. Because of the many times through out my life, the Holy Ghost visited my heart and mind giving me a great assurance that the Church is true. There have been times in my life, as a boy and as an adult when the Holy Ghost has helped, by sending a feeling of great peace to my mind and heart.

Today I can say with out any doubt in my mind or in my heart that this Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true. I also know that through the power of the Holy Ghost, Joseph Smith did receive revelations from Heavenly Father, the Saviour the Holy Spirit, and also recieved instruction and revelation through angels and resurrected beings. The temple is a holy place, it is sacred, there is no other place like the temple on this earth. I have come to understand, I need to have a real desire to want to know the truth. I need to search, study, pray (with all my heart), fast, be humble, be clean and then it is easier for me to feel the Holy Ghost.
I say these words in the name of the Saviour, Jesus Christ, Amen.

Fireside TONIGHT: Special Guest - The Savior

There is a Fireside tonight and our Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ is the speaker! What an awesome opportunity!

Now with this get a paper and answer the following questions:

Would you go? Why would you go?
What if it was going to last for 10 hours?
What if you were scheduled to work?
What would you do if you have a date with someone special (this could be a 1st date, with your kids, spouse, friends etc.)?
What would you do if you have a family trip all planned out and paid for?
What do you do if your car breaks down on the way?
Why wouldn't you be satisfied with hearing about it, reading it, or watching it later?
Why is it more important than Sunday school?
How would you prepare yourself for this event?
What would you do during and after to help you to remember what was said and how you felt?

Did you write down your answers? Now sign the paper that you wrote your answers on - just so you can commit to yourself that you would indeed do everything in your power to be there.

We do have this opportunity - it is called General Conference. Every 6 months we are blessed by being able to hear the voice of the Lord through His servants. Treat it for what it is!

I found this on you tube. It is a montage of the 12 apostles of the church's testimonies from general conference a while back. I Love how simple and awesome they are.

Even though I am no where near being an apostle I want to add my testimony.
I want to testify of Heavenly Father's love for me and everyone. He loves us so much I don't even know words awesome enough to express how this makes me feel. He loves us so much He made a plan, the plan of Salvation to make sure we had all the instructions that we need to make it through life. He loves us so much that his plan included a Savior, Jesus Christ and his atonement for when we are human and mess up or feel sad or alone we can call on the Savior to take out pain and comfort us. Heavenly father loves me so much He sent me to Earth during a time when the full Gospel was on Earth, a time after Joseph Smith had enough faith to act upon the answers he got to his prayers, at time when we are led by a living prophet. In the name of Jesus Christ Amen

I also would like to share that much of my testimony of Jesus Christ and the atonement have come through study of the Bible and through prayer. I know that Christ lived and died for everyone, and I am grateful that even though I am not perfect I too can be saved after all that I can do and by the grace of my Savior Jesus Christ.

Sunday Will Come - Jospeh B. Wirthlin

"I think of how dark that Friday was when Christ was lifted up on the cross.

On that terrible Friday the earth shook and grew dark. Frightful storms lashed at the earth.

Those evil men who sought His life rejoiced. Now that Jesus was no more, surely those who followed Him would disperse. On that day they stood triumphant.

On that day the veil of the temple was rent in twain.

Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of Jesus, were both overcome with grief and despair. The superb man they had loved and honored hung lifeless upon the cross.

On that Friday the Apostles were devastated. Jesus, their Savior—the man who had walked on water and raised the dead—was Himself at the mercy of wicked men. They watched helplessly as He was overcome by His enemies.

On that Friday the Savior of mankind was humiliated and bruised, abused and reviled.

It was a Friday filled with devastating, consuming sorrow that gnawed at the souls of those who loved and honored the Son of God.

I think that of all the days since the beginning of this world’s history, that Friday was the darkest.

But the doom of that day did not endure.

The despair did not linger because on Sunday, the resurrected Lord burst the bonds of death. He ascended from the grave and appeared gloriously triumphant as the Savior of all mankind.

And in an instant the eyes that had been filled with ever-flowing tears dried. The lips that had whispered prayers of distress and grief now filled the air with wondrous praise, for Jesus the Christ, the Son of the living God, stood before them as the first fruits of the Resurrection, the proof that death is merely the beginning of a new and wondrous existence.

Each of us will have our own Fridays—those days when the universe itself seems shattered and the shards of our world lie littered about us in pieces. We all will experience those broken times when it seems we can never be put together again. We will all have our Fridays.

But I testify to you in the name of the One who conquered death—Sunday will come. In the darkness of our sorrow, Sunday will come.

No matter our desperation, no matter our grief, Sunday will come. In this life or the next, Sunday will come."

I would like to bear my testimony that the Lord does work in strange ways. Recently I just lost my baby at 17 weeks of pregnancy. I had to deliver him like he was alive but he wasn't. I don't know why this happened to me. But I do know that the Lord knows what he is doing and he has plans for everybody. So even though I'm going through a hard time. Ive just got to put my trust in the Lord cause he knows what he is doing. No matter how hard it is. He would never give us something we couldn't handle. I have faith that Lord knows what he is doing. And I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen

I would like to bare my testimony to you that I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God and that this book will help you and the people around you in your life. My life has been blessed exceedingly from being in this church, having this book, and reading it throughout my life. I would be lost without it. As you begin to read the Book of Mormon you slowly start to understand the power of the gospel.

I have witnessed with my own eyes that the gospel changes lives. It makes people happier. I have personally seen my home change extensively since my family received the gospel 11 years ago. The mood in our home improved, our family is closer than ever, and since we've been baptized in this church we have received so many blessing that I can't even count them all.

I know that if you read the Book of Mormon your whole life through that any problem that you happen to come across in the future you will be able to overcome. The reason is because you will know the principles of the gospel and the Holy Ghost will help you know what to do.

I know that if I hadn't joined this church I would be lost in this world making mistakes that I probably couldn't fix.

So, I pray that you will read the Book of Mormon and pray about it with a sincere heart and a contrite spirit to see if it is true.

I know that it is true without a shadow of a doubt. I know that Jesus Christ suffered four our sins and wants us back with him in the kingdom of Heaven.

I say these things in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

I want to share my testimony of temples. I personally have never been to the temple, I have been to many temple grounds and enjoyed the beauty of them but never inside. I do know that we can do inside the temple is very sacred and very very important. I love going to see the temple, walking around the grounds, admiring the beauty of it all and pondering the things I need to do. I know that temples are very important and that I need to continue reaching for my goal of a temple marriage someday, I know that in the temple we can be sealed together as families for all time and eternity. This knowledge brings me great comfort. When I think of the eternities I think wow that's a long time but its ok, because I know that by going through the temple and living my life properly I will have the people I love around me during that time, and that is awesome! Many times walking around the temple I have been told the things that I need to do or have gotten the answer to a prayer. I also know that there are people counting on me to do their temple work for them, and I am the one who needs to do it for them. I know this is important because I know that our Heavenly Father loves everyone of us and He wants us all to live with Him again.

I have had boughts of depression for as long as I can remember. It was when I was on the lower end of one of these battles. I lived far way from every one and everything I had ever known. I was lonely. I had not been to church for years. I was living with my sister(who always had lived far away, thank the US Air Force) and I thought that there was no use in keeping up the battle. One night I hear knocking on my door and a lot of giggles and shshs, I open the door it was my sister and her kids led by their home teacher. They barged in and gave me Oreos, (I will let any one stay if they feed me Oreos). the Home teacher, Brother Johnson told me he just wanted me to know that he knew the church was true, and Jesus was our Savior and he loved us no matter what and he NEVER gave up on us, even if we give up on our selves. When they left I felt something I could never remember feeling. It was like the room filled with warmth and love. And I swear to this day that someone put their arms around me and hugged me tight. No Life hasn't been perfect since then nor have I not had had my moments of despair but I have never forgotten(maybe let it slip to the back recesses of my mind) that Jesus Loves me and he lives and the Atonement that he suffered for us was for more than sins. He knows our sorrows and comforts us through the horrible times of life. In the Name of Jesus Christ Amen (I don't know if I should Include the amen part)
